Five Ways to Get Paid

Most businesses end up using two of these. Each card leads to the page with the full detail.

Card Terminals and Merchant Accounts

Countertop terminals, mobile readers and virtual terminals through our referral partner, Cutting Edge Advantage. The merchants they board process on the Universal Pay platform. We make the introduction and get your website ready for underwriting.

Shift4 POS for Restaurants and Venues

Shift4 Dine for restaurants and hospitality, the product formerly sold as SkyTab. Shift4 Venue, Shift4Shop and Shift4 handheld devices are covered too. AppWT is a Shift4 partner and handles the build and the integration.

Stripe, Online and In Person

Stripe Checkout, subscriptions, invoices and payment links on your website, plus Stripe Terminal readers at the counter. We also help prepare a Stripe account for its underwriting review.

PayPal Checkout

PayPal buttons, standard checkout, the PayPal Commerce Platform and subscription payments, added to a new website or one that already sells.

Custom Payment APIs and SaaS

For when the software is yours. Billing inside your own platform, split payouts for a marketplace, webhooks into your back office, or a customer portal that takes payments. We design the API and build the application around it.

Which Route Fits

Start from how you sell today. The answer is usually obvious from there.

You run a restaurant, bar or hotel and want orders and payments in one system.

Shift4 Dine →

You need card terminals or a merchant account, in a store or on the road.

Merchant services →

You sell online, bill every month or send invoices that customers pay by card.

Stripe or PayPal →

You already take Stripe and want the same account on a counter reader.

Stripe Terminal →

You are building a platform that takes payments for your own customers.

Custom API and SaaS →

High-Risk Merchant Checkout

Some products carry an age limit, a shipping limit, or a processor that asks more questions before it approves an account. We build the checkout for that kind of store, and we build it to be honest about money.

Account Boarding and Checkout Build

We work through a high-risk processor's onboarding with you: the merchant application, sandbox access, the authentication method the processor requires, and the test transactions it reviews before production. On the store side, the buyer's date of birth is checked before an order, restricted shipping destinations are refused before the order is placed, and the store declines to take a card at all until live processor access is in place.

Payment Status Handling

A payment counts as paid only on the processor's confirmed approved status. A declined card and a processor that cannot be reached are reported separately, so no customer is told a card was refused when the real problem was a connection.

Fulfillment Only on Paid

Each payment notice is checked against the processor's signature, and an order is fulfilled only when the payment shows as paid. A delayed payment method that has not cleared is not fulfilled, and the store still answers the notice so the processor stops resending it.

Duplicate Protection

Each payment can be fulfilled once. The fulfillment record is keyed on the payment itself in the database, so a repeated notice cannot fulfill an order twice, even when two copies arrive at the same moment. A checkout submitted twice returns the same order instead of creating a second one.

Who Does What

Plain answers now save a surprise later.

AppWT is not a payment processor, an acquiring bank or an underwriter. We do not hold, move or settle funds, we do not approve merchant applications, and we do not set processing rates.

Cutting Edge Advantage, Shift4, Stripe and PayPal each quote their own pricing and terms, and each holds its own merchant relationship. Our part is the introduction where there is one, the website and checkout, the integration, and the support after launch.

Payment Questions

The five we hear most.

Does AppWT process payments?

No. AppWT builds and integrates payment systems and refers merchants to partners. The provider, whether Shift4, Stripe, PayPal or the Universal Pay platform through Cutting Edge Advantage, holds the merchant relationship and moves the money.

Can I use more than one payment option?

Yes. A common setup is a card terminal at the counter plus online checkout on the website. We set up each one on your site and your systems.

Is SkyTab still available?

SkyTab is the earlier name for Shift4 Dine, Shift4's restaurant and hospitality platform, and skytab.com now redirects to Shift4 Dine. If you were quoted SkyTab, this is the same product under its current name.

Which payment option has the lowest fees?

We do not quote or compare processing rates. Each provider sets its own pricing, and it depends on your volume, your industry and how you take cards. We tell you which routes fit how you sell, and the provider quotes you directly.

Can payments connect to our own software?

Yes. We build payment APIs, webhooks and customer portals so payments flow into your own software, using tokenized payment methods so card numbers are not stored on your servers.

Not Sure Which Route Fits?

Tell us how you sell today. We will point you to the right option and handle your side of the setup.
